Descaling Guide
Materials Needed:
- Keurig Descaling Solution or white vinegar
- Fresh water
- Large mug or bowl (at least 12 oz)
- Clean cloth or paper towels
- Access to sink for rinsing
Step-by-Step Descaling Process
- Prepare the Machine: Empty the water reservoir and remove any water filter if installed. Ensure the machine is powered on.
- Add Descaling Solution: Pour the entire bottle of Keurig Descaling Solution into the empty water reservoir. If using vinegar, mix equal parts white vinegar and water.
- Fill Reservoir: Add fresh water to the MAX fill line in the reservoir. The total liquid should reach the MAX line.
- Start Descaling Cycle: Place a large mug on the drip tray. Press and hold the 8oz and 12oz buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds to enter descale mode.
- Brew Without K-Cup: Lift and close the handle without inserting a K-Cup. Press the 10oz brew button to start the descaling process.
- Complete Multiple Brews: Continue brewing until the ADD WATER light comes on. This may take 30-60 minutes depending on model.
- Rinse Thoroughly: Empty and rinse the reservoir. Fill with fresh water to MAX line and brew multiple cycles (at least 12) to rinse out all descaling solution.

Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| DESCALE light won't turn off | Incomplete descaling cycle, mineral buildup remains | Repeat descaling process, ensure thorough rinsing cycles |
| Machine won't enter descale mode | Button combination incorrect, machine error | Unplug for 2 minutes, replug, try button combination again |
| Slow brewing after descaling | Insufficient rinsing, remaining descaling solution | Run additional rinse cycles with fresh water |
| Vinegar smell after descaling | Inadequate rinsing cycles | Run 5-10 additional brew cycles with fresh water only |
| Water leaks during descaling | Overfilled reservoir, clogged exit needle | Check fill level, clean exit needle with paperclip |
| No water flow during descaling | Severe mineral clog, air lock in system | Use commercial descaling solution, prime pump by starting/stopping |
Descaling Error Codes
- DESCALE Light Flashing: Urgent descaling required - Machine may stop working soon
- Solid DESCALE Light: Descaling recommended - Schedule within 30 days
- No Power After Descaling: Water in electrical components - Unplug for 24 hours to dry
- Error Code 01: Heating issue - May indicate scaling damage to heating element
